FROM ANDERS

Dear Members,

Congratulations to Samuel for receiving the inaugural 2018 CATA Facility Employee of the Year Award. The selection was based on nominations and his accomplishments on and off the tennis court. Samuel has been an employee at the Club since 2009 and became our Facility Manager in 2011. His job in and around the Clubs 8 acres, is endless stretching from preparing our courts to be ready for play every day, pool maintenance and daily upkeep of our Polo Facilities. In addition Samuel plays with our Members, plays in our leagues and assists with instructing our 10s and under children to enjoy the game of tennis. As a player, Samuel started as a 3.0 player in 2013, became Texas top 10 ranked player in men’s 3.5 in 2016 and is today one of the Clubs our leading players on our Men’s 4.0 team.

On behalf of all our Members and Staff we congratulate you to this well deserved honor. Thank you Samuel

Holiday Health Tips
Maintaining a healthy fitness level throughout the holidays can be a challenge. Extra calories from food and alcohol along with fewer physical activities can be a recipe for disaster. Start a plan now and do your best to follow through.

Some of my favorite helpful tips are:

Schedule your workouts. Don’t just assume you will get them in without planning. Time is short!

Find a workout partner. Having accountability can help keep you motivated.

If you do overindulge, make a promise to yourself you will work it off. Then do it!

Set some specific goals: like getting 3 workouts in per week, sign up for a 5k or 10k race, or running 3 miles per week.

Take advantage of workout apps. They are great for keeping you on track and motivated.

Personal Training Gift Certificates are now available!
Why not give the gift of health? They make great stocking stuffers too!

Happy Holidays!

POLO TENNIS CLUB IS PARTNERING WITH PROJECT CONNECT

The Polo Club is excited to be partnering with Project Connect this Christmas. Project Connect is a local non-profit organization serving the needs of families in the Dripping Springs community. Project Connect works with school counselors, nurses, pastors, and other local organizations to provide resources and support to our neighbors in need.

This Christmas we will have an Angel Tree and collection box in our lobby for members & guests. UPDATE: Based on the overwhelming wish requests for gift cards, Project Connect will be collecting gift cards in lieu of a traditional angel tree as previously advertised. The most popular needed and wanted items are clothes and shoes and Project Connect has found that it is incredibly empowering to give ownership to the recipients to shop for themselves.

The angel collection box will be in the lobby from Wednesday, December 4th through Monday, December 17th as well as a box to donate your gently used clothing items, shoes and coats.

Project Connect will also accept monetary donations and all donations are tax deductible.

Teens, both boys and girls, always love and appreciate bath and body items, body sprays, lotions, bath bombs, etc.

Popular Gift Cards:
HEB
Walmart
Target
Old Navy
Movie Gift Cards (local or Hill Country Galleria)
H&M
Ulta
Bed, Bath & Beyond
Learning Express
Bath and Bodyworks

We hope you choose to participate in this amazing opportunity!

TENNIS TIPS FOR THE MONTH

THE TACTICS OF TENNIS: HOW TO PLAY AGAINST EVERY TYPE OF PLAYER

Tactics of Tennis: The All Court Player
The third type of player is the all-courter. This player is comfortable in all areas of the court. He or she can hit all kinds of shots from anywhere, but these players still have some weaknesses in their game. Sometimes, they can hit everything well but don’t have one shot that can be called as a real weapon.
The tactics of tennis that these players use vary according to their individual abilities. But because they are usually the most versatile players, what they usually like to do is to keep their opponents guessing with what they are going to do form point to point. If they are executing well, they give themselves a very good chance of winning.
Use variety in the rallies. Mix up the spin, pace, trajectory and direction of ground strokes with the intention of opening up the court for a winner, either from the baseline or the net.

Tactics of Tennis Against an All Court Player
Against an all court player, the tactics of tennis will greatly vary according to his specific strengths and weaknesses stroke-wise. Since this type of player is comfortable in all areas of the court, his or her weaknesses tend to be technical.
For example, if this player is generally good on the baseline but has trouble hitting backhand passing shots, then he should be attacked on this side. Here are other guidelines:
Focus only on the ball and try not to be confused or surprised by what your opponent is doing from point to point.
Hit deep consistently and use variety in spin, trajectory and pace.
Use your own strengths to create openings on the court.
Be alert and aware as to what kinds of shots cause him or her more trouble. Make him or her hit more of these shots.
