NEWS FROM THE HIGH PERFORMANCE GROUP
August has been an on and off month for our kids playing tournaments. We had quite
a few kids play in the Houston Superchamp tournament which was tough considering
the weather was 117 and much hotter on the court. It definitely showed us that
we have some seriously tough kids in High Performance.
Congratulations to Micah Ahr for winning the boys 16s main draw! This is his second
final in the last month and we are so proud of his improvement in his mental game
on the court. Congratulations to Lucy Schmile for winning 3rd in singles and 1st
place in doubles for girls 12s! Lastly, congratulations to Elise Robbins for winning
the back draw in girls 16s! So excited for each of these players as they worked
hard for all of their success.
Kaito Nishihara had a tough first round match in boys 16s but turned around and
made it to the semifinals of the back draw.
Whitney Robbins made it to the quarterfinals of the main draw in girls 14s. It’s
been so exciting to see her start to get the wins that she has worked so hard for!
Way to go Lexian Andrushko for making it to the semifinals of the back draw in boys
Tallulah Andrusko and Ankith Chandra had a pretty tough tournament and came back
to practice with some things to work on for the next tournament.
Congratulations to Jayci Goldsmith for making it to the quarterfinals of the USTA
National tournament in California. She played very well and took out some of the
top seeded players in the draw.
Tali Jarmond played in a separate National tournament in Alabama and made it to
the 3rd round of the consolation draw
Congratulations to Ireland Simme for winning the Sportsmanship award in her National
Doubles championship! This is a HUGE honor to get and we are so proud that she and
her partner were able to achieve this as well as winning the back draw south finals!
Way to go girls!
Starting the month of September we will be having another Superchamp Tournament
here in Austin. We will keep you updated on how everyone is playing and the results!
The last thing I want to talk about is I have accepted a job in Kansas as the Volunteer
Assistant. I will be working with the women’s tennis team at Kansas University and
I’m very excited! Even though this is a fantastic opportunity, I will miss every
one of the kids that I have worked with along with ladies and members. I could
not have gotten a better opportunity to start my coaching career with a better club
and people to work with. I will forever be grateful for everything that I have learned
here at Polo and I hope to keep in touch with all my kiddos. HUGE thank you to Suds,
Kolby, and Anders for helping me and supporting me this last year, I could not have
gotten to where I am without them.
It has been a slow and very HOT summer for our ladies. I hope everyone has gotten
enough rest and is ready to jump right back in our season that is right around the
corner! We are kicking of our fall season with our Annual Boot Camp starting on
the August 28th, so if you have not signed up yet, please do so at the pro shop
or email Dinka.
As our summers our usually a bit slower with a lot of vacation time, it has not
been like that for our 3.0 USTA Team that qualified for Sectional play offs which
were played in Dallas. I personally have to say that I am very impressed and proud
to have been a part of such a dedicated and resilient team. Not only have they shown
tremendous fight and effort during sectional, they have also worked unbelievably
hard to prepare themselves for the competition. HOT practices have a whole new
meaning for us now ☺.
I would like to recognize two of our singles players that have been an anchor to
our team, Roxane Cosette and Kathy Noble. Not only have they both been undefeated
the entire season, they have also been able to pull out critical wins at sectionals
that kept our team competitive. Playing two singles matches a day in 100 degrees
heat for two days in a row was a heroic effort on their part to push their team
forward. I am very proud of them both as well as our entire team and am looking
forward to our next season with all the experience that we have gained.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our boot camp
Kathy Noble Roxanne Cossette

GARY SHELLY- PERSONAL TRAINER
How posture affects your overall health
Some of the most common postural dysfunctions are
Knees rotated outward
Feet everted ( pointed outward )
These can be a result of years of sitting, inactivity, injuries or something else.
Regardless, most can be corrected. Remember, your body works as a unit. If one joint
is out of alignment it can affect the entire body.
The problem: When one, or all of the load joints are out of alignment, weakness
occurs. If the shoulder is in pain it could be from a mis-aligned hip. Same with
the knee. Elbow pain could be caused by the shoulders, hips or even the feet.
The solution: This is the tricky part, but you have to first identify postural dysfunctions.
Are all your joints in their proper position? Are your feet turning out? (No…this
is not normal by the way) How is your body supposed to support itself when the foot
is turned out and the ankle is weakened? Does your head protrude forward? (Headaches,
allergies could be a result)
Start paying attention to your posture. Look at yourself in the mirror. If you need
help identifying postural distortions let me know.
